I’m Healing … Forever?

Do you feel like you are constantly pressured to do better and be better? Have years gone by in your conscious healing journey & you feel like it’s never going to end? Aren’t you tired of all this effort? To heal is a true gift … so why has it become burdensome? When did the term “healing” start to carry such a heavy weight in our society? We are being robbed of something beautiful. Let’s change the narrative.

We initially start our healing journey with the intention to better ourselves. We usually start by wanting to become healthier physically, mentally, and/or spiritually. Or we find ourselves at a breaking point with have no choice left but to heal. Or we may accidentally stumble upon it by serendipitous meeting.

Once we take our first steps walking upon the yellow brick road to the Emerald City (AKA walking down the path of self-discovery to reach enlightenment and healing) - it can feel blissful. Like, “Wow, look at all this growth I’ve made.” Or, “I am so thankful to see things I’ve never seen before.” We get glimpses of an elevated version of ourselves and it’s inspiring. Then, the shadows come. The old patterns, habits, belief systems, etc. that keep us trapped in our old ways appear. This can be frustrating and often discouraging. But with surrender, compassion, and forgiveness we are able to HEAL. This is where the healing journey gets juicy. This is when you cry, scream, yell, write, sing, dance, talk, laugh, play … all the things. This is when you alchemize the energy, release the attachment, and integrate into your true being. When you are able to live through a ‘shitty’ time in life and move past it with deeper insight than before - congratulations, you have healed yourself.

Healing is actually just the acceptance of the human experience in its entirety, plus the willingness to stay open to what life is trying to teach you.

Healing comes in many layers with much depth. I could not possibly discuss all the ways to heal (and how deep it all goes) within this article. However, in future articles I will share different methods of healing I’ve found effective. But for right now the real question is : when does it end? The answer : it doesn’t. Healing is a journey that is forever, it’s until death do us part. Once you make the vow to better yourself, you’ve said “I do” for life. That is unless you decide to ignore your intuition and stay in stagnation due to ignorance and lack of effort. No offense. I’ve been there myself. We get all gung ho about healing ourselves then plateau when it becomes too uncomfortable. Sometimes it's not even a plateau; it’s a straight dive off the cliff to an older version of ourselves we thought we left behind. It happens. It’s apart of the journey. What matters is that you get up, dust yourself off, and keep going.

If you are currently at a plateau or downfall, or if you are tired of this endless journey of “betterment” … hear me out. What if healing is not about becoming ‘better’? What if healing is natural and effortless? What if healing is our superpower that we keep trying to outsource? Think about it; our bodies naturally heal and repair themselves. Every cut you’ve gotten has closed and healed. Every bruise you’ve gotten has gone away. Every tear you’ve cried has dried. Every cold you’ve caught doesn’t last. Every painful thing we’ve been through, we’ve made it through. And we will continue to do so. We are all superhuman. Truly. That’s the secret they hide from us. We are fucking incredible - and capable of so much more than we even realize.

If healing is natural, effortless, and our superpower … why does it always have to be related to pain and suffering? In today’s world when we hear “healing” everyone winces. Like “oh shit, I wonder what happened to that person.” It’s time to change that narrative. Because healing is beautiful and empowering. It should not be related to judgement or shame. Why would you not want to walk down the yellow brick road to Emerald City? It’s a journey full of surprises and challenges, and the rewards are priceless jewels you’ll carry with you for the rest of your life. So if you are walking on your healing path, I applaud you. Keep going. Don’t let society make you think that something is wrong with you for it. Or that you need someone/something outside of yourself to do it for you. You are doing everything you are supposed to be doing in this moment and time. Trust. Don’t sweat it. Release the heaviness. Release the burden. Absorb gratitude. Accept the blessing.

I was inspired to write this article after taking a yin yoga class with one of my favorite teachers. As we were laying in savasana she said, “Healing is not always from ‘loss', sometimes it is just a reminder of our worth.” In my head I was screaming YES !!! Someone had to say it. Simple, yet so effective. We are forever healing because we are worthy. We are forever healing because we love and accept ourselves, we know this life is full of jewels for us to discover, and we deserve it.

I am sharing this with the hopes to lighten the load of ‘healing’. You don’t always have to be healing because something bad happened to you, or healing to become a better version of yourself. Healing can be simple acts of appreciation that honor our value. We all have the ability to heal. So let’s honor it. Once we drop the stereotype and commercialization around the word - that’s when we can break barriers. And that’s all I want to see in this lifetime : us as a community getting stronger and stronger, standing up and claiming what’s rightfully ours.

I love you. I invite you to comment below if this resonated with you!

Support comes from an internal source, so deep and vast and timeless that it can never be exhausted. It can never be lost. It is impossible to measure its extent, yet it is possible to know it fully. It is essential to know it fully and recognize it as your own being.
